Kids & Jobs
"Kids & Jobs" is the City of Birmingham's long-running successful summer youth employment initiative program. Formed in the summer of 1994, Kids & Jobs seeks to employ area youngsters between the ages of 14 and 21 to work in the public, private and nonprofit sectors of the business community.
Kids & Jobs has grown to be one of the largest public/private partnerships in the country. Youngsters eligible to participate in the program are put to work during critical summer months and paid on compensation criteria developed and managed by the Mayor’s Division of Youth Services, under the direction of Executive Director Cedric D. Sparks, Sr. The Annual Kids & Jobs program, with the endorsement of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, will continue the "CEO Corporate Challenge" that was introduced in 2004. Sparks said the initiative was a way to mobilize businesses that may not want to offer jobs, but would rather participate through the donation of funds.
