Governmental Affairs Committee
The
mission of The Governmental Affairs Committee of the Birmingham Regional Chamber
of Commerce is to assist the Chamber, through recommendations to its Executive
Committee, and to improve the economic vitality, business climate, and quality
of life for the Birmingham region by partnering with public entities at the
local, state, and federal levels of government to devise and implement sound

Environmental Committee
The Environmental Committee of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce brings together Chamber members concerned about the quality of the environment in the seven county region. Through our study, discussion, public education and advocacy we strive to further the Chamber's mission of making the Birmingham region a better place to live and do business by promoting cost effective and fair environmental action that will protect and enhance the natural environment for the benefit of all our citizens.

Public Safety and Security Committee
Public Safety and Security Committee works proactively to reduce crime in the Birmingham Metropolitan Area.
Committee members support a wide variety of crime prevention measures such as:
- Recommending proposed legislation.
- Producing or recommending seminars on employer issues.
- Supporting the area-wide Crime Stoppers program by authorizing payment of rewards to informants and by providing funding for the program through an annual fund-raising golf tournament.
- The committee maintains a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an area media partner in order to help publicize the committee's Crime Stoppers program.

The Finance and Taxation Committee
The Mission of the Finance and Taxation Committee of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce will be to advise the Executive Committee of the Chamber on all local, state and federal legislative and regulator tax issues that could have a fiscal impact on our seven county region.
The Committee will monitor tax bills introduced in Montgomery and Washington and where appropriate take a position on the specific issue.

Progress 280 Task Force
The purposes for which the task force is organized are:
- To improve the flow of traffic on US 280 by reducing vehicular congestion.
- To increase the task force members' and the public's awareness and understanding of the important relationship between transportation and land use planning,
- To be an advocate with local governments, citizens and businesses for principles of sustainable growth along the US 280 corridor, but to avoid being drawn into support or opposition on specific development projects, and/or speaking publicly on individual projects.
