Back to Birmingham Partnership
What is Back to Birmingham?
Back to Birmingham is an initiative
sponsored by the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce to keep in contact with
the area’s best and brightest students. Each student chosen to be a part of the
program is paired with a mentor in the business community to keep in contact
with during their college career.

Mentors
Why should I be a mentor?
Being a mentor provides contact with quality
students and gives business officials a chance to interact and network with the
next generation of potential employees!
What is required of a mentor? What does it
take to be a mentor?
All that is needed is a passion for
Birmingham! Mentors are needed from all types of career fields, age brackets and
levels of experience. The mentor is expected to email their student at least
once a semester and attend “Welcome Home” parties for the students twice a year.
The mentor is encouraged to take an active interest in their student, encourage
them to explore career opportunities in Birmingham, and alert the Chamber if
summer internships are available in their respective businesses.
Students
What is required of the students?
Students are only required to attend
“Welcome Home” parties once a semester and keep an open mind about returning to
Birmingham after college graduation.
Chamber
What does the Chamber do?
The chamber facilitates the partnership
through hosting the “welcome home” parties, sending students the Birmingham
Magazine and sponsoring a committee to find students internships in Birmingham
during the summer.
